/24-7PressRelease.com/ - April 10, 2005 - The Pope Blog: Conclave Edition ( http://thepopeblog.blogspot.com/ ) is now available for full coverage and commentary of the events of the sede vacante (Vacancy of the Holy See), including the conclave, commentary on the papabile, also known as papabili (which is the plural form of papabile), and election of the next Successor of Saint Peter. The conclave is the highly secret papal election conducted by the College of Cardinals within the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican City.
The Papabile ( see http://thepopeblog.blogspot.com/2005/04/papabile.html ) is the unofficial list of cardinals who, according to so-called "experts" and the media, are thought possible that they will be the new Pope. It is not an official list recognized by the Vatican. The terms "papabile" and "papabili" are unofficial Italian terms that would translate to "popeable" in English, if any of the words actually existed officially.
The goal of the conclave edition of the Pope Blog is to provide timely Vatican and conclave-related news and a forum for discussion of the conclave and the College of Cardinals, specifically those who are papabili.
Andy Hagans, the blog's founder, says, "We loved Pope John Paul II and we will always remember him. Now our duty is to report on the conclave and when the time comes join Catholics around the world in welcoming our new Holy Father."
The Pope Blog was founded in June 2004 and is run by Andy "Boney" Hagans and Jimmy "Jimbo" Atkinson, from the University of Notre Dame. The mission of their site is to spread the teachings of Pope John Paul II, cover the conclave, and spread the teachings of the next Pope.
