The End Of Addiction: An Interview With Don McCauley Author Of Total Success Now

MaiMai News - SUPPLY, NC, May 06, 2008 - Don McCauley, author of Total Success Now, was recently interviewed by Stanley Spain regarding the theory of addiction recovery proposed in Total Success Now.

The book proposes a new methodology in regards to overcoming addictions that is, while not really new, is certainly somewhat controversial. Some might even call it radical. Though the methodology has been used in Eastern cultures for hundreds of years, this technique of dealing with addiction has generally not been well accepted in Western culture.

"Many people,' stated Mr. McCauley, "have a hard time accepting the very idea that addiction can be overcome, sometimes quite easily. I am not just discussing substance addiction here. The idea can also be applied to any other form of addiction. I am including in this statement all addictions, which would include addictions to overeating - sex -gambling - any so-called 'vice'. It does not matter what the object might be. What I am discussing here will overcome an addiction to porn as easily as an addiction to popcorn. I am also including in this statement addictive relationships. Addiction to depression. Addiction to low self esteem. Addictions to hatred, judgment, fear and self-loathing. We can define addiction as 'any recurring, unwanted thought or desire'. Any thought or idea that causes one pain, grief or any unwanted mind state in any form, is a candidate for removal using this technique."

The basis of the technique comes from the study of hedonics. In most Western addiction therapies, the methodology is behavior based. This goes against what Mr. McCauley has termed the First Law of Mind: You cannot change the mind by changing the behavior - however you can change the behavior by changing the mind.

"This goes to the heart of the method," said Mr. McCauley, a Certified Hypnotist and the author of Total Success Now. "If we can utilize a powerful method for changing the mind first, the behavior naturally follows. This helps to greatly reduce and, in many cases, eliminates the mental craving for the object of addiction. Of course, in the case of substance abuse, it is absolutely necessary to seek medical treatment in all cases. Detoxification is a medical process that must be undertaken under the care of a physician in every case. One should never attempt to detoxification without being under the care of a physician. However, assuming detoxification has been accomplished successfully, it is nearly always a mental process that results in the dreaded relapse. It is here also that this technique shows itself to be extremely powerful."
