/24-7PressRelease.com/ - April 21, 2005 - The Pope Blog has joyfully announced the new Supreme Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Benedict XVI. In celebration of the new pope, The Pope Blog has been renamed by its founder as "The Pope Blog: Pope Benedict XVI."
Jimmy Atkinson, a writer for The Pope Blog: Pope Benedict XVI, was quite happy when he heard that Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger ("the Panzer Cardinal") was selected by the College of Cardinals. "Despite what the mainstream American media may be saying, Pope Benedict XVI is a kind, humble and holy man. I join my Catholic brethren worldwide in celebration on this happy day. But now I have to get back to work, there's posting to do!"
Atkinson announced the new pointiff with a large headline saying "Habemus Papam" in italicized black letters. "Habemus Papam" is latin for "We have a pope". Meanwhile, in Rome, a crowd in St. Peter's Square cheered Pope Benedict XVI as he made a short speech and gave a blessing.
The Pope Blog was founded by Andy Hagans, a college student, in the summer of 2004. "Simply put, I love the Pope--that's why I started this blog." (For those who do not know what a blog, or weblog is, it is a frequently updated Web site usually containing the author's thoughts or short posts about a particular subject.)
Andy updated The Pope Blog throughout the next year, although it did not receive many visitors. With the death of Pope John Paul II, the popularity of The Pope Blog exploded; now, with the announcement of Pope Benedict XVI, the site is again receiving a large amount of visitors.
