MaiMai News - PORT ST. LUCIE, FL, January 03, 2008 - We live in a country with an overabundance of importance placed on sports. A disproportionate amount of young kids are reared by parents who think the most importatnt thing in the world is "who won on Sunday"! This burdens young start up athletes with pressures that start with their little league teams, and their over zealous parents, all the way up to the major sports leagues, where cheating is often overlooked and encouraged (see Major League baseball).
Becoming a respected Doctor or Lawyer should bring many accolades. Young athletes, however, are often met with a sneer if academics is their glowing achievement. See the word "geeks" for that explanation and it's associated connotation.
Since the advent of the internet a new charlatan has blossomed. The one that makes claims that can't be substantiated and exploits the athletes obsession with getting their 5 minute highlight on Sports Center. Many "alleged" experts will go to any length to capitilize on the billions being made on sports nutrition, training regimens etc. They feed on the frenzy of prospective athlete's dreams.
Claims such as "throw 10 miles faster" and "run like a deer" are common place.
The question becomes "How do diligent, grounded parents and advisors safeguard their young athletes from these slick marketed promotions?
The general answers are obvious!
1- The BBB. Do your work and make a check into their record.
2- Make sure the product is endorsed by reputable professionals. This way if you know the endorser you can always locate them. I would be willing to bet a product endorsed by a Cal Ripken would most likeley be golden.
3- Guarantees that last long enugh to really give the product it's due, and not just a hollow promise. Thirty days should be a MINUMUM!
Luke Lowery, whose training methods have helped many world class athletes double their leaping ability (www.jumplikeapro.com) though not a household name, has many credible references and endorsements. His site is a plethora of regular athletes and credible professionals who back up his claims. He also gives a 60 day guarantee.
Basketball, Football, Baseball and Track stars go to Luke and his program to help them increase their leaping abilities.
"You see, I'm regarded by all these pro athletes... top American, Asian and European coaches... NBA, NFL, NCAA, ATP Tennis tour, UEFA football, Olympic teams... and over 4,000 regular athletes just like you... as the World's Undisputed #1 Vertical Leap Expert... and have been, ever since an elite training facility in Houston, Texas labeled me this over 3 years ago."
Luke understands the need to substantiate any claims with unquestioned information and sources.
Many websites, though, have psuedo- ficticious names and no physical way of contacting the companie's principles. This is a major red flag!
Be cognizant of the many who are just in it to make a buck! It only takes a small fraction of the money spent in the sports product industry to make a shrewd person a lot of money.
As a society, sports is on an undeserved pedastal that should be reserved for teachers and life savers. Sports helps promote interaction, and physical well being for kids, and has it's redeeming value to our nation; but unfortunately, many use it as a catipult to their own devious self interests.
The word to the wise and parents out there "Buyer beware".
For every Luke Lowery at http://www.jumplikeapro.com there are ruthless purveyors of false information costng parents and their young athletes millions of dollars.
