THE NEW CASHLESS GLOBAL CURRENCY?

MaiMai News - September 26, 2007 - MBC, located in the United Kingdom, has developed a system that allows a payment to be made by merely entering a mobile phone number. No customer ID, bank account or credit card is required. A growing number of companies are attempting to capitalize on the mobile phone phenomenon by adding financial capabilities from mobile devices. Nearly all systems require the addition of an external bank, credit card, or payment processing company before a transaction can be completed. In contrast, MBC's system involves only the merchant, the customer, and the mobile carrier.

Currently merchants worldwide are being offered a free Merchant Account with MBC. This includes no setup fee and no transaction fees to receive money from sales of products and services

After more than one year of live testing and five years of development, MBC is now ready for more than 1 million transactions a day. The system is already approved by over 100 mobile carriers in 15 countries, with more being rapidly added. In a surprise move, MBC has been classified by the United Kingdom as a Financial Transaction company and not a service provider.

Regarding their new status as a Financial Transaction company , MBC's Vice President of Marketing explains, " We received status at the same level as VISA in the U.K. which in turn makes us exempt from taxes in transferring money as well as the taxes within the mobile carrier systems. This means either lower fees to the consumers if a merchant passes all the fees onto the consumer or increased money to the merchant if he absorbs the fees.

As we grow and expand, we hope to have this status world wide. For now we are the only mobile payment platform to have this status in the World. Nobody can compete with our pricing structure in the second largest mobile purchasing market in the world, Europe/U.K."

From a merchant's viewpoint, the ability to access the mobile marketplace is astounding. The subscriber count reached 2.7 billion by end of 2006, and reached 3 billion by July 2007, faster than expected. Around 80% of the world's population enjoys mobile phone coverage as of 2006.This figure is expected to increase to 90% by the year 2010 Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_phone

China at over 500M subscribers is the largest. The U.K., Luxemburg, Hong Kong and other countries account for more mobile phones than people. At this time, Africa has the largest growth rate of mobile subscribers in the world, about twice as fast as Asia. On a numerical basis India is the fastest growing with 6 million new subscribers per month and just under 18% penetration rate and is expected to reach 500 million in 2010.
